The most iconic monument of Breda is of course the Grote Kerk or 'Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk'. A visit to the elegant interior of this national monument, built in the Brabant Gothic style that transitions into Renaissance style, is therefore well worthwhile.
The tours are Dutch spoken. For our guided tours, we cooperate with the city guides of Gilde de Baronie. For guided tours by an external guide, we charge a contribution of € 1 per person.

On this guided tour, you get a unique look behind doors that would otherwise remain closed. You will discover the hidden treasures of the church; from the imposing chapter house overlooking the Grote Markt, the consistory room where services used to be prepared and the high roofs above the nave for a different view of the monument.

Little things in the Grote Kerk Breda
On this guided tour, you will discover details of the interior you would otherwise never see. We will pause at little devils and dragons and you will discover hidden symbols, which have a deeper meaning and tell the history of the church. We also pass signs and texts on walls and pillars left by time and traces of the Iconoclasm, which both damaged and shaped the church.

Tour around the Great Church Breda
On this tour, we discover the exterior of the church, with places normally hidden from the public. Here you will see the influence of the Italian Renaissance in the Northern Netherlands.

TOWER CLIMB (12+)
Breda's church tower. You can see it from afar. The Grote Kerk Breda and its tower are the most prominent icon of the city and its surroundings. Did you know you can also enter the tower? Climb the 287 steps with a guide. Learn more about the history of the tower and enjoy the breathtaking views over the historic city and its surroundings. Climbing the tower takes about one hour.
Route and parking
Coming by train? The Grote Kerk Breda is a 10-minute walk from Breda railway station. The church is also easily accessible by bus. You can walk to us in a few minutes from the Karnemelkstraat or Oude Vest bus stops.
Coming by bike or moped? Then park in one of the free bicycle parking facilities. Improperly parked bicycles are regularly removed by the municipality.
Coming by car? The car parks De Prins and De Barones are closest to the Grote Kerk Breda. Click here for general information on parking in Breda.
