Connecting urban renewal and heritage
CrossArts is an initiative of Electron, BredaPhoto, Stichting Tranzforma (City Gallery), Bredase Bomen and the Grote Kerk Breda that creates sustainable exhibitions in exciting public places in Breda. By connecting urban renewal, heritage and culture in the broadest sense, CrossArts contributes to the development of the city.
LOVE OF THE RIVER MARK
CrossArts aims to highlight the beauty and significance of the river and advocates for the preservation of the River Mark and its integration into the new urban area 't Zoet. It does so by collecting and sharing personal stories about the Mark, drawing special attention to the river's cultural value.

DE VEERMAN (THE FERRYMAN)
While visiting the Grote Kerk Breda, it is almost impossible to miss the 8-metre-high medieval mural of Saint Christopher. According to legend, this patron saint carried travellers safely across the river on his shoulders.
Up and until 6 October, you are able to visit Christopher on Breda's River Mark. CrossArts presents the floating artwork De Veerman, which was inspired by the shoulders of Saint Christopher. The work offers a unique experience of the city of Breda from the water and invites you to reflect on your own love for the River Mark.
CrossArts presents the floating artwork De Veerman, which you visit by boat. De Veerman can be visited on Saturdays and Sundays and is dedicated to a different theme each week, accompanied by an artist who shares his or her ideas on water. The work moves in and around Breda city centre, boarding locations can be found on the CrossArts website.

In 2023, it was possible to spend six weeks exploring in and around an art maze made of hemp and a colourful playhouse, both designed by Krijn de Koning (in collaboration with art producer Mothership).

CrossArts in the Grote Kerk Breda
The introduction of CrossArts in 2022 was held in the Grote Kerk Breda with the exhibition of the immense and sustainable artwork Guernica de la Ecologia by textile artist Claudy Jongstra. The artwork is 7.7 metres wide and based on Pablo Picasso's famous painting Guernica. This artwork is a manifesto for biodiversity and a call for a reappraisal of the relationship between humans and nature. The work was combined with seating elements made of trees from Breda.

Programme
The initiators of CrossArts; Electron, Grote Kerk, Breda Photo, Bredase Bomen and Stichting Tranzforma (City Gallery) are represented on the programming committee. They contribute ideas on the strategy to be followed and give substantive advice on the programme.
