The Grote Kerk Breda is a house of stories, where traces of the past make history tangible. If you know where to look, the stories reveal themselves. Our interactive tours let you discover the many stories. What lies behind the tombs, the grandeur and the symbols? And what does that say about our lives in the here-and-now?

It is also great fun to take the tours in the company of others. Immerse yourself in the stories of the Grote Kerk Breda and discover that the things that concern you now are not so different from the themes of the past.

please note

The interactive tours will be introduced in the course of this year. All you need to take a tour is a smartphone, and the tours are free of charge.

Quick highlights

Want to see all the highlights of the church in a short time? You can with the Quick Highlights tour. Admire the colourful frescoes, the splendour of bygone days and the tombs of important families from Breda and Dutch history. Marvel at the impressive organ and the unique Prinsenkapel. We look at each story from a contemporary perspective. How do you make a name for yourself in an age without social media, what is a holy comic strip and just who is that ancient big friendly giant? Dive into the stories and discuss them further with friends, colleagues or family. History is not as far away as you think.

Women in focus

Did you know that women in particular have had a great influence on the origins of this church and on the city of Breda? The church was originally even named after a woman: Maria. She was cancelled and then reinstated. The inspired, influential women of the Nassau family and the other 'founding mothers' of the Grote Kerk Breda brought titles and wealth. They fought against poverty and dedicated themselves to art and culture. The stories of these women have long been neglected. Now we tell you all about them.
