Koerstrui in de kerk '22
In the run-up to the start of the third stage of La Vuelta in Breda, the Grote Kerk Breda presented a special exhibition from 2 July to 26 August 2022 with a selection of over 100 cycling jerseys from Brabant-based collector Henk Theuns' large collection of cycling jerseys: Koerstrui in de kerk (Race jersey in the church).
After the start of this stage, the cyclists passed through the Grote Kerk Breda with their bicycles in hand. During the Vuelta a España, the adrenaline in their bodies briefly gave way to silence and reflection. Some of the riders also lit a candle in remembrance of the global victims of Coronavirus.
Colourful exhibition for young and old
Brabant-based collector Henk Theuns’ collection included around 7,000 cycling jerseys, from which a selection of over 100 of the absolute best were displayed in a contemporary, creative way in the Grote Kerk Breda. Designer Jan Konings and former professional cyclist and journalist John den Braber presented a selection that focused on the stories of virtue and vice that lie behind the cycling jerseys.
Special design
The red jersey for the first three stages in the Netherlands (La Vuelta Holanda) was commissioned by the municipality of Breda and La Vuelta Holanda and created by Dutch fashion designer Mattijs van Bergen. This unique new Dutch red jersey was displayed alongside historic red jerseys from the Vuelta a España.
Former pro cyclists portrayed
The duo of Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek created a new Exactitudes series especially for Koerstrui in de kerk: Coureurs (Racers). Former pro cyclists pose in their historic and iconic cycling jerseys.
Koerstrui in de kerk was organised by the Grote Kerk Breda in cooperation with La Vuelta Hollanda and Breda Marketing and was made possible thanks to the support of the municipality of Breda, Zeloo, Rabobank and Stichting Ondernemersfonds Breda.
