Route and parking
Coming by train? The Grote Kerk Breda is a 10-minute walk from Breda railway station. The church is also easily accessible by bus. You can walk to us in a few minutes from the Karnemelkstraat or Vlaszak bus stops.

Coming by bike or moped? Then park in one of the free bicycle parking facilities. Improperly parked bicycles are regularly removed by the municipality.

Coming by car? The car parks De Prins and De Barones are closest to the Grote Kerk Breda. Click here for general information on parking in Breda.

During the BredaPhoto Festival up and until 3 Nov, the Grote Kerk Breda is accessible on the showing of a valid BredaPhoto ticket.

Accessibility

The Grote Kerk Breda is accessible with a wheelchair, walker or baby buggy. Please note that the floor partly consists of old tombstones with some irregularities in places. We have a wheelchair-accessible toilet, emergency response staff and free Wi-Fi. In addition, assistance dogs, clearly identifiable and leashed with a harness, are welcome. If you are unable to visit the Grote Kerk Breda on your own, you can bring a companion. This person may enter free of charge – even during paid activities.

Coats and bags

Coats and small bags may be taken into the church. If you have a large or heavy bag, you can leave it at the reception desk at your own risk.

Photographing

The Grote Kerk Breda may be photographed. It would be nice if you share photos of your visit on socials and tag us.

Are you a professional photographer and are you going to use the photos professionally and/or commercially? Then we would like you to contact us in advance. Is the Grote Kerk Breda free to enter?

The Grote Kerk Breda is accessible free of charge for at least eight months a year. There are also occasional paid exhibitions, usually in the autumn. Information about these can be found in the calendar, among other places.

How do I know if Grote Kerk Breda is open?

Outside our regular opening hours (Monday to Saturday from 10.00 – 17.00 hrs and Sunday from 13.00 – 17.00 hrs), the Grote Kerk Breda may be closed due to events. Always check the current opening hours at the top of this page prior to your visit.

Are children welcome at the Grote Kerk Breda?

Children are most welcome. The adults accompanying them should ensure that the children behave well in the church.

Is the church accessible for people with physical disabilities?

The Grote Kerk Breda is accessible to people with physical disabilities, with the exception of the Chapter House and the tower. An extra narrow wheelchair is available for the Prince's Chapel.

Can I climb the tower of the Grote Kerk Breda?

Anyone over 12 years old, capable of climbing 287 steps and with the ability to pass through narrow doors may climb the tower. Click here for info and tickets.

Are there guided tours in the Grote Kerk Breda?

Can my dog enter the Grote Kerk Breda?

Pets are not allowed inside the church. Assistance dogs are an exception and are welcome when clearly identifiable with a leash and harness.

Can I take wedding photos in the Grote Kerk Breda?

You can spend an hour taking photographs in the Grote Kerk Breda with up to five people. You do need to request this in advance, via info@grotekerkbreda.nl. We charge a fee of €50 for this. With this fee, you are supporting the Grote Kerk Breda.

Can I give a guided tour of the Grote Kerk Breda?

The Grote Kerk Breda is open free of charge at least eight months a year. During those months, you can give your own (paid) guided tours. We charge a donation of €1 per group member. With this fee, you are supporting the Grote Kerk Breda.

Can I organise a photo shoot in the Grote Kerk Breda?

It is possible to organise a professional photo shoot in the Grote Kerk Breda for a fee and only after approval from the Grote Kerk Breda. We assess each request individually. You can make a request via info@grotekerkbreda.nl. We will make an appropriate offer depending on the duration of the shoot and the number of people in the church. 

Can I take photos from the Pulpit, the Prinsenbank and the Hillen organ?

The Pulpit, the Prinsenbank and the Hillen organ are not open to the public. 

Can the Hillen organ be played in the Grote Kerk Breda?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to play and/or hire the Hillen organ.

When does the City Carillonneur play live from the tower?

Besides the automatic short melodies that ring from the tower every 15 minutes, the City Carillonneur plays every Tuesday and Friday from 11am to 12pm during the market.

He also plays at events; during the Jazz Festival, at Christmas, at Easter and during the Singelloop run.

August is Carillon Month Breda, with concerts by guest carillonneurs from the Netherlands and abroad.

How can I apply to flag?

You can apply to flag from the Inbedrijf team, of the municipality of Breda, e-mail: inbedrijf@breda.nl. The costs of the flag are to be borne by the applicant.

The clock on the tower is running slow/stopped. What should I do?

If you see that the clock is running slow or the hands are stationary, then contact the municipality of Breda via 14076 or contact@breda.nl

Is visiting the Grote Kerk Breda a religious activity?

The activities in the church are not religious in nature. Information about the programme can be found in our calendar

The only exceptions to the above are the services of the Protestantse Gemeente Breda. There are a number of these each year. Information about these services can be found here.
